Dr. Stephen Sparks received his Doctor of Medicine degree at Loma Linda University. He considers it to have been a great blessing to have trained where there was an emphasis on whole-person care. He then completed his residency training in occupational medicine at the University of Arizona. Early in his career, Dr. Sparks worked with a hospital to develop a full-service occupational health program. In addition to providing care for those with work-related injuries and illnesses, he also enjoyed working with the hospital’s corporate wellness programs, which it provided to various businesses. He next spent several years in mission service, working in a rural health clinic in Africa. Despite the challenges, it was a very rewarding experience to be able to help some of the people there.
Upon returning to the US, he again took up the practice of occupational medicine, working for a hospital serving its own injured employees and client companies in the community. Following that, he moved into a position with county government, serving the occupational health needs of a number of its departments.
Most recently, over the last 3 years, he has been with the NEWSTART Lifestyle Program associated with Blue Stone Health and Wellness. This work involves evaluating participants' health and assisting them in controlling and reversing chronic disease when possible. Throughout his career, he has sought to lead people to make better lifestyle choices and practice the best lifestyle habits. It has been a pleasure for him to see NEWSTART patients take hold of these principles and reap the benefits of renewed health.
